This week's prayer suggestions

This week, please pray for Bible Society; our Mission Partner focus for the month of November.

Almighty God, we thank you that your written Word continues to liberate us: showing us who you are; how you love us; how we should live; and what we can be. Help us not to take it for granted that we can read and hear your Word while millions still hunger for its message in a language they can understand. We pray for the translation teams who set your Word free for people to hear and read for the first time in their own language.

Lord, your Word has power to set captives free, so we pray for those who are chained, in whatever way: by circumstances; by sickness; by guilt; or by their actions. Lord, through the Bible, give them a glimpse of your love and power and unchain them so that they can take new steps into freedom.

Strengthen us, Lord Jesus, to take your Word seriously: to be champions of freedom and justice; to speak truthfully and act with integrity against all that enslaves; and to treat everyone with dignity, as people made in your image

Pray for our Open the Book teams as they continue to work faithfully in local schools, introducing children to some of the great stories in the Bible.

Pray for all Bible Society’s work in the UK - through those involved in politics, the media, the arts and education - to change attitudes to the Bible and to help people recognise its value.

Pray for Bible Society's work around the world - especially in those places where reading, owning or sharing the Bible is difficult, dangerous or forbidden.

Last Sunday was Remembrance Sunday.  During World War One, about 65 million men were mobilised. Nearly a third of them were wounded and some 8.5 million were killed. This year continues to be a time to reflect and to pray earnestly for peace. Bible Society has collected some inspiring stories and helpful resources for this season.

The Lord's Prayer (Contemporary)

Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins
as we forgive those who sin against us.
Lead us not into temptation
but deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power,
and the glory are yours
now and for ever.

The Lord's Prayer (Traditional)

Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name;
thy kingdom come;
thy will be done;
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those
who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation;
but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom,
the power and the glory,
for ever and ever.

A Prayer for the Church

O God, in whose sovereign power rests everything in heaven and earth, take hold of your church today that, in every parish in this Diocese, we may be led humbly in the paths of holiness and boldly in the ways of witness, that many may be found as new disciples of Jesus Christ and learn to live joyfully in the power of your Holy Spirit. Amen.
