This week's prayer suggestions

This week, please pray for the Church and the World...

  • for majorities; that they may show respect for all, and use their power and influence for the common good.
  • for minorities; that they may not suffer ridicule, prejudice or persecution because they are different, or because of ignorance or fear.
  • for leaders; that those who have to make important decisions may keep their eyes firmly fixed on Jesus and have God-given wisdom.
  • for followers; that they may be nurtured, challenged, helped to grow in confidence and play their part fully among God's people.
  • for the broken; that those who are suffering violence, grief, poverty, hunger, sickness, despair or shame may know God’s loving presence with them.
  • for those whom God has restored; that they may know the healing power of God's love and forgiveness, match their deeds to their words of repentance, and reach out themselves in love and compassion to all God's wounded people.

The Lord's Prayer (Contemporary)

Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins
as we forgive those who sin against us.
Lead us not into temptation
but deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power,
and the glory are yours
now and for ever.

The Lord's Prayer (Traditional)

Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name;
thy kingdom come;
thy will be done;
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those
who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation;
but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom,
the power and the glory,
for ever and ever.

A Prayer for the Church

O God, in whose sovereign power rests everything in heaven and earth, take hold of your church today that, in every parish in this Diocese, we may be led humbly in the paths of holiness and boldly in the ways of witness, that many may be found as new disciples of Jesus Christ and learn to live joyfully in the power of your Holy Spirit. Amen.
