This week's prayer suggestions

We pray for peace...

  • for places where different faiths or cultures exist side by side; that difference may never be an excuse for intolerance or violence;
  • for those who promote terror or hatred; that they may turn to peaceful ways;
  • for all whose lives have been devastated by war; civil strife or terrorism; that they may find courage and new hope;
  • for those who shape the conduct of the nations; that they may pursue peace, defend the truth, and not repay evil with evil;
  • for those working for peace; that they may not be discouraged;
  • and we remember with thanksgiving all who have given their lives to secure justice and peace; may we honour their sacrifice and strive without ceasing to protect the liberties that they have won.

This week, please pray for peace: peace in the world, peace in our communities, peace in our lives, peace in our hearts; in the name of Jesus, the Prince of Peace. Amen.

The Lord's Prayer (Contemporary)

Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins
as we forgive those who sin against us.
Lead us not into temptation
but deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power,
and the glory are yours
now and for ever.

The Lord's Prayer (Traditional)

Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name;
thy kingdom come;
thy will be done;
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those
who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation;
but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom,
the power and the glory,
for ever and ever.

A Prayer for the Church

O God, in whose sovereign power rests everything in heaven and earth, take hold of your church today that, in every parish in this Diocese, we may be led humbly in the paths of holiness and boldly in the ways of witness, that many may be found as new disciples of Jesus Christ and learn to live joyfully in the power of your Holy Spirit. Amen.
