Prayer cycles

Here are two regular cycles of prayer that you could use as a basis for your prayers on each day of the week.

From Common Worship

On Sunday, please pray for...

  • The natural world, that we might use creation sustainably.
  • The needy, that they may know new life.

On Monday, please pray for...

  • The people of God, for inspiration by the Spirit.
  • The media, for healthy communication.

On Tuesday, please pray for...

  • The persecuted Church, for protection and faithfulness.
  • The world's displaced people, for freedom and security.

On Wednesday, please pray for...

  • All who follow Christ, for growth in discipleship.
  • All who have no one to pray for them.

On Thursday, please pray for...

  • Ministers of the gospel.
  • Those who work for reconciliation.

On Friday, please pray for...

  • The local church, for courage to take up the cross of Christ.
  • Victims and perpetrators of violence, for healing and repentance.

On Saturday, please pray for...

  • That Christians may live as citizens of heaven.
  • That the nations of the world will live in harmony.

The Lord's Prayer (Contemporary)

Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins
as we forgive those who sin against us.
Lead us not into temptation
but deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power,
and the glory are yours
now and for ever.

The Lord's Prayer (Traditional)

Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name;
thy kingdom come;
thy will be done;
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those
who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation;
but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom,
the power and the glory,
for ever and ever.

A Prayer for the Church

O God, in whose sovereign power rests everything in heaven and earth, take hold of your church today that, in every parish in this Diocese, we may be led humbly in the paths of holiness and boldly in the ways of witness, that many may be found as new disciples of Jesus Christ and learn to live joyfully in the power of your Holy Spirit. Amen.
