So let us pray, with a thankful heart, for the church and for the world, for our own needs and for the needs of others, following the pattern that Jesus taught us.
Through our love of the countryside,
Through our respect for all God's creation,
Through our care of property, possessions and resources,
Through our concern for the unique detail of each human life,
Through our honesty, integrity and lifestyle:
Our Father in heaven we pray, "Hallowed be your name."
Hallowed be your name.
On farms and in factories where vital work is done,
In our homes and families where we have our roots, and are valued for who we are,
In hospitals and hospices where love and care are generously given,
In colleges and schools where the future is shaped,
In prisons, hostels and refuges where the broken can be made whole,
In shops and offices where trade and commerce flourish,
In palaces and parliaments where policy and plans are made:
Our Father in heaven we pray, "Your kingdom come, on earth as in heaven."
Your kingdom come, on earth as in heaven.
As we seek guidance in the reading of your word and in prayer,
As we walk in the way of your commandments,
As we try to live true to our conscience and faithful to the hope that is within us,
As we share the story of our faith and seek to win others for you,
As we serve one another in the power of your love,
As we strive for truth, peace and justice for all:
Our Father in heaven we pray, "Your will be done."
Your will be done.
For the millions who live in poverty and hunger,
For the dispossessed, harried and persecuted,
For the terrorised, victimised and downtrodden,
For the wants of our neighbours, while we lack for nothing,
For those don't know where the next pay packet, or even the next meal will come from,
For those who cannot find the path to reconciliation, cooperation and transformation,
And because our extravagance and wasteful exploitation threatens your world.
Our Father in heaven we pray, "Give us today our daily bread."
Give us today our daily bread.
Because we have broken your commandments,
Because we dwell on and flirt with what we ought not to do,
Because we neglect and fail to nurture that which we ought to do,
Because we create war, famine, misery,
Because we damage your world and your people,
And because we are, by our attitudes and actions, separated from you:
Our Father in heaven we pray, "Forgive us our sins."
Forgive us our sins.
For the people who have hurt us,
For the organisations that have exploited us or caused us injustice,
For the institutions that have used us with prejudice, spite or double dealing,
For the leaders and governments who have betrayed a trust or exploited a weakness,
For all who cannot be free or whole because of guilt for what they have done.
Our Father in heaven we pray, "Forgive those who sin against us."
Forgive those who sin against us.
When prosperity lulls us into a false sense of security,
When hard times prompt us to despair,
When success makes us boastful,
When failure makes us bitter,
When sickness lays us low,
When fear robs us of our faith:
Our Father in heaven we pray, "Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil."
Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
Through worship that draws us closer to you in faith and love,
Through fellowship that builds us up, draws us together and drives us out in your service,
Through discipleship that makes us determined to be more like you in all that we do,
Through mission that reaches out with love, humility, compassion and conviction,
Through ministry that empowers us to serve you in one another and in our neighbours:
Our Father in heaven we pray, "The kingdom, the power and the glory are yours, now and for ever."
The kingdom, the power and the glory are yours, now and for ever.
So we reflect on these things and on all that God has put into our minds or laid on our hearts as we say the Lord's Prayer, together.
As our Saviour taught us, so we pray:
Our father in heaven,
hallowed be your name.
Your kingdom come,
Your will be done on earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins
As we forgive those who sin against us.
Lead us not into temptation,
But deliver from evil.
For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours.
Now and forever. Amen.
