Josiah Spiers ran the first beach mission, in 1867, on Llandudno beach.

He wrote ‘God is Love’ in the sand and invited children to decorate it with pebbles and flowers, and to listen to a Bible story. I wonder how he would feel to know that beach mission is still thriving in Cromer - and elsewhere - 140 years later?

During those 140 years there have been changes, of course, but the desire to inspire children, young people and adults to follow Jesus by introducing them to Him using the Bible is still the same. From the humble beginnings at Llandudno grew the work of CSSM and Scripture Union. It is an inspiring story. Cromer Beach Mission is still run under the Scripture Union ‘umbrella’, and it’s great to be a part of what God is doing in Cromer in this ‘mission on our doorstep’. The team works alongside Christians from the local churches, and there are lots of ways of supporting Beach Mission. Please don't hesitate to contact us if you are interested.
