“And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved”
So says Luke, speaking of the early Church in Acts 2:47 , and so says our new motto text for 2010. It is a wonderful reminder of the sovereignty of God - it is He who does the adding ‑ and a wonderful challenge to our expectations of what might happen in Cromer as we enter the new year. Could it still happen here in that way?
Reading about the life of that early Church, in Acts and elsewhere, it is clear that the strength of its faith was one of the main reasons for such dramatic growth - growth that the Church in the West has almost given up hope of - but the other was the quality of its life together. This quality came from God himself, and is the same quality that we see in those places where the Church is experiencing significant growth today.
A strength of faith and a quality of life together (which then impacts those we live among) to which God then adds his blessing: that is the challenge of the early church, and that is the challenge to us. May it be the reality of our Church life together in 2010.
